In January 2025, the Government Digital Service (GDS) announced its transformation into the central digital authority for the UK government, retaining its well-established name due to its national and international recognition.
This restructured GDS now encompasses teams from the Central Digital and Data Office, the Incubator for AI, the Geospatial data team, and the Responsible Technology Adoption Unit, uniting these entities to drive comprehensive digital reform across the public sector.
The newly formed GDS has articulated an ambitious vision in its “Blueprint for Modern Digital Government”, aiming to revolutionise public services beyond central government to include local authorities and the NHS.
