Inspired by the Team GB accomplishments at the Olympic Rio Games 2016, Envitia staff played some Olympic style games on a hot and sunny August day. Organised by Business Development Manager and a sports fan Alexa Cook and HR Assistant Lauren Thompson, the day included various outdoor and indoor sports games that were played during the tea and lunch breaks throughout the day. The games included basketball, long jump, archery, (paper plane) javelin and Wii tennis.
One of the highlights of the day was the Women’s basketball team winning against the Men’s team in the car park of our head office at lunch time. The men did take the Gold and Bronze medals in the long jump competition.
In keeping with Envitia’s core business in geospatial visualisation and intelligence, “Pin the City on the World Map”, our version of “Pin the Tail on the Donkey”, proved to be quite tricky to win, not least a little dangerous for the judges! The contestants were pinning the cities on the map with their eyes closed. We had plenty of brave map experts who joined in this challenging game.
The paper plane javelin competition ran throughout the day with the competitive instincts growing as the day progressed. As the throwing zone was on the way to the kitchen, we saw an increased volume of tea and coffee drunk as more and more attempts were made.
The day ended with an awards ceremony and a social event in the evening. During the ceremony the symbolic Gold, Silver and Bronze medals (home made out of the tennis ball box caps and coloured with an acrylic paint) were given to the games winners. Although no world records were achieved, it was a highly enjoyable day with the sports activities and we all had a good laugh.
