Environment Agency Selects Envitia for Two-Year Contract to Develop and Manage Data Strategy

2 December 2021

Envitia will provide specialist data expertise to help the Environment Agency deliver its sustainability objectives for the UK

The Environment Agency (EA) has awarded a contract to Envitia to develop and manage data strategy.

Data underpins every key activity within the EA, from flood risk management to achieving the UK’s net zero 2030 target. Data therefore needs to be managed as a valuable asset with corporate level governance and integration into business processes.

Envitia will bring its data and geospatial data expertise to support EA’s Data Outcome Plan.  This two-year contract will enable EA to develop new applications and systems, and then exploit data based on consistent core data models.

As a place-based organisation, everything either happens somewhere, or is located somewhere, so location is fundamental to EA’s activity. Geospatial and location data needs to be well-managed and consistent across business domains and systems.  Envitia’s geospatial expertise will support EA in developing a new Location Data Standard, incorporating data science to monitor how EA uses and exploits its data.

“We are proud to have been selected to support the vital work of the Environment Agency and are delighted to extend our current relationship” said Envitia CEO Nabil Lodey. “The Environment Agency leads the public sector in understanding the criticality of having consistent and trustworthy data across the whole organisation but, more importantly, implements key programmes such as this to turn data into business information which can underpin decision making. This approach removes organisational silos and would undoubtably benefit other Government departments.”
