Envitia Celebrates St Lawrence Seaway 60th Anniversary

7 November 2019

Envitia, a long-term supplier to the Canadian St Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC), celebrates 60 years of one of the outstanding engineering feats of the 20th century

Over the years, Envitia has provided consultancy to develop SLSMC’s application, including specialist advanced decluttering algorithms to ensure that a ship’s key information is never hidden.

The system uses two forms of display; a geospatial display using S57 ENC data and a schematic one, representing a simplified view of the stretch with lots of locks that deal with the altitude changes.

Both are handled by Envitia’s MapLink Pro software development kit (SDK), providing the mapping functionality within SLSMC’s Traffic Management System. A system which is key for organising the flow of ships through the 15 locks within the 2,300-mile St Lawrence Seaway ‘marine highway’ stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes.

Nabil Lodey, CEO of Envitia said: “The St Lawrence Seaway is an incredible engineering achievement which celebrates 60 years of strategic importance to North America and the Canadian economy.  We are delighted to continue our work with the SLSMC through our MapLink Pro suite of SDKs to deliver critical mapping capabilities.”

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation marked its 60th anniversary this year with the opening of the 2019 navigation season.
